Let’s Create and Store a Great Taco Seasoning Mix
Do you make tacos often? For years I have found it easier to buy tacos rather than make them. That ALL changed when the inspiration to make this great taco seasoning mix happened. Making your own taco seasoning mix recipe is a game changer! More flavor, less preservatives and cost savings is a win with this one!
I really was minding my own business, when one of my favorite cookbook authors appeared with a recipe. Well…some of the ingredients were different from the instructions…so I couldn’t actually make their recipe.
But, taco seasoning mix inspiration struck.
What? Make your own seasoning?
Savory Spice is my favorite seasoning shop. You have seen me post them in the turkey chili and that kitchen spice organizer.
Savory Spice taco seasoning has been bought and enjoyed, but that small jar just simply didn’t last as long as I would have loved.
You certainly can purchase a package of taco seasoning for 99 cents at your local grocery store.
When I looked at the packages of the store bought version–there were few ingredients that added great flavor and then you have to be concerned with all of the preservatives added to make those taco seasoning packages last (for years) on the shelves.
No, thank you.
Can I tell you that creating your own will make you never grace that taco seasoning aisle again?!
But, what could make creating that great taco seasoning mix recipe better?
Well, if you have followed me long you know that I am one who makes things easier when I cook…like…
- cooking larger amounts of chili, meatloaf, spaghetti sauce, vegetable soup and other favorite foods that do well adding to the freezer and make for fast and easy meals.
- canning tomato juice, marinara, jalapenos, candied jalapenos, carrot cake jam, lima beans, green beans and other foods to have easier preparation at my fingertips.
- drying herbs and adding them to my spice organizer.
See what I mean?
Anytime I can do something to be a timesaver and make future meals ready at a moment’s notice makes my heart happy.
Does that happen to you, too?
Now, the wheels began turning.
What if I just made this taco seasoning for one recipe and added them to cute storage envelopes so that I don’t have to pull out 9 jars to create the seasoning every time I made tacos?
How about adding those envelopes to a cute spice storage container in the pantry?
Then when I needed to make tacos, rather than making a trip to the grocery for that “not so good taco seasoning”, that seasoning was prepped and ready to go!
SOLD!
The search began for cute envelopes to store that taco seasoning mix.
Here’s are some envelopes and storage organizer that I found.

Small white seed envelopes were found locally and a simple design for front labels that we had on hand were created.
Now to make the taco seasoning recipe to add to each envelope.
NOTE: Measure out one recipe of seasoning at a time for each envelope to make certain that the ingredients are exact amounts for cooking each time.

How to use this Taco Seasoning.
This seasoning is perfect with Spring Taco Lettuce Wraps recipe that is found online at inthevue.com.
This recipe is perfect for using with ground turkey for a healthier taco version.
In fact–if you want to go a step farther–just make the taco meat ahead and add it to the freezer so that with a bit of defrosting in the microwave or on the stove–tacos will even be faster when you need them! See? I love timesaving tips!
Need another taco tip?
Instead of using corn or flour tortillas?
