A Beautiful Gift Idea with Pressed Flowers
This beautiful gift idea came from the post I shared from dealing with grief. My niece shared that she wanted to take her Mother’s flowers from funeral arrangements and make them into framed pieces of art for her home. She actually knew how to fire brick press flowers that make for the most gorgeous framed pressed flowers you have ever seen.
Pressed Flowers with Fire Brick?
I was all in! She shared her method and it was brilliant. I learned how to carefully navigate times for each type of flowers and I was off!
Fire Brick Pressed Flowers
Equipment
- microwave
- 2 fire bricks
- cotton fabric
Materials
- flowers
Instructions
- Cover one firebrick with cotton fabric to fit the top.
- Arrange flowers on the brick and cover with another piece of cotton fabric.
- Top with another fire brick.
- Place the firebrick on microwave turntable.
- Microwave for one minute to begin with and adjust the time for different flowers. ***I found that most of my flowers could only handle 1-1.5 minutes before browning, which I didn't want. Each type of flower is different and white ones require the least amount of time.
- Remove flowers and lay onto a piece of parchment paper to cool.
- When cool, add them to a clear glass pressed flower frame.
- NOTE: I found that the continual heating of the fire bricks made it difficult to handle or be safe for flowers after a few times; so, cooling off in between drying sessions was necessary…or changing them out with a different set of fire bricks would help.
Notes
And so I began the process from that arrangement above and more of the funeral flowers.
Aren’t these gorgeous pressed flowers?
I added this photo in so you can see my journey on learning to time each type of flowers and which require what amount of time. Also, to cool the fire bricks in between.
I can’t wait to try this again! So magical and such a great project! Here’s my niece’s finished pressed flowers already framed and hanging on her wall. Stunning!
I am so pleased with how these turned out!
Wouldn’t they make the BEST gifts? Whether for thank you cards, framed pressed flowers, or so many other uses, I love them. To keep flowers from a memorial, funeral, birthday, anniversary, celebration, retirement…the uses are endless to capture beauty and keep them in a beautiful way.

I love the ease and the beauty this method produces. Better way than the way we used to dry corsages in a box years ago, right? lol

What a beautiful way to preserve these. I had some roses from my Mom’s funeral which I finally just put the petals in a jar. And how pretty for a wedding.

I know. So many uses. I have tried many methods for drying flowers–but, this one retains the color so much better and is so fast and easy. Loving working on gifts right now with them all.

Hi Leslie,
I haven’t pressed flowers in years. You have inspired mt to try again during the warmer months.
Leslie J Watkins
I think I may be buying fresh flowers all winter and saving some of those, too. Why wait, right?

What a wonderful idea! Such a great way to preserve the garden, I should try this with the smaller dahlias.

I can’t wait to see you do this with dahlias. I’m adding dahlias to my garden next year for the first time. I bet they will press beautifully!
