Ways to Help You Get Ready for Fall
So– what are you doing in the “getting ready for fall” department?
If we peek around the corner…in just a few days…that Labor Day weekend will arrive to herald fall. I’ve been holding back some. I’m lingering at enjoying my herbs, flowers and those zinnias. I love summer warmth and back porch mornings.
Even with heat indexes of over a hundred here, there is still a definite feeling of transition. Are you feeling it?
I realize I shared my Zucchini Bread recipe to make and put away for fall mornings…and in truth?…I’ve already put 3 batches of little Pumpkin Zucchini Bread loaves in my freezer using that same recipe with adding the pumpkin in place of the fruit.
There are people getting ready for fall now everywhere and when my friend, Chloe, from Celebrate and Decorate, invited me to be a part of a Fall Blog Hop, I was all in.
It was a perfect opportunity for me to begin the transition of getting ready for fall.
Hobby Lobby has been getting ready for fall for weeks…
With savings galore, there are simply so many gorgeous fall decorations everywhere. By the number of customers with those decorations in their shopping carts, I knew that other people were getting a bit anxious to make seasonal changes.
Not only Hobby Lobby, but there are displays now in my favorite stores and garden centers.
All of us are anticipating the arrival of pumpkins, mums and fall flowers to tuck into planters and gardens and decorations indoors. They haven’t arrived here yet…but, soon I am sure they will make their appearance.
How do you get ready for Fall?
Are you in your garden harvesting seeds like I am? I’m still working on harvesting Zinnia seeds.
I’m cutting back annuals that look tired and worse from summer heat.
Planting new seeds for the fall harvest has begun so that I can get in the number of days to harvest before the first frost.
Although it’s not quite “official” launch time for fall…I find myself into things that are transitioning for the season.
My front door wreath now has a new sign and a bit of fall touches. Not yet the orange wooden pumpkin, but a transition no less.
The back porch began it’s transition to the fall season.
The back porch wreath is transitioning with a nod to fall that lets you know that summer is leaving us. Pine cones, fall leaves and sprays have replaced the summer flowers.
Even the bench on the screened porch has the sweetest new fall pillow added from TJMaxx. What a perfect transition touch.
That back porch table has a new drop cloth table cloth and table runner. The wooden trough has returned to begin to hold fall with dried hydrangea and white pumpkins.
This table drew me in to create a tablescape with place settings in the same cream and gray hues with Cutlery Couture burlap silverware holders, blanket stitched napkins, rattan placemats and my favorite Southern Living dishes in cream and gray.
I found the sweetest Martha Stewart acorns at TJMaxx that I LOVE. They provided a new theme for my fall transition. When added to that table runner, it all came together. I can’t wait to entertain on cool autumn evenings by candlelight.
Acorns…you have stolen my heart.
Amidst all of the decorating…the acorns stole the show! Indoors and out they became a focal point.
Summer is leaving indoors, too.
That plate rack that you can see again here, now has touches of fall in the trays.
Even the Norah Fleming acorn mini was now added with some sweet fall apple napkins to the napkin holder.
Those acorns found their way into vignettes on the coffee table.
A larger wooden acorn was added to the gateleg table. Isn’t he the best?
Pillows in subtle hues are being added to the sofa to still leave a hint of summer before completely letting go to fall pumpkins.
Accessories on the mantel are moving over for fall, but I am not quite ready to totally let go of summer there just yet. Are you like that, too?
Dried hydrangea was added to the entryway for this sweet arrangement. Love using them for fall.
A new tablescape has appeared.
The dining table centerpiece began with a concrete planter holding a fern until those fall plants are available at our garden center.
I am still happy to have the live fern showcased with another of those great wooden acorns, some wooden beads and a great copper candle to welcome guests who have their feet under that table.
Again, it was so natural to add those cream colored napkins with gray blanket stitch to those great cream and gray dishes. Those acorns were again perfect in the center of each salad plate.
For this place setting, those burlap silverware holders say, “Give Thanks”, and remind us that we are beginning to enter the season of thankfulness.
When those guests arrive…
There will be produce that I have put away during the summer months to flow onto that table to welcome guests. Things that help get our tables and menus ready for fall— like:
- apple dumplings
- pumpkin zucchini bread
- sweet potato turkey chili
- winter tortellini soup
- loaded potato soup
might be found if your feet are under my table…
But, don’t you need a great Fall recipe?
I thought so! In welcoming fall, I always have appetizers at my fingertips.
So….here’s an easy way to welcome guests for a gathering this fall…
Fig and Prosciutto Pizza
Equipment
- oven
- microwave
- Lodge cast iron pizza pan, baking stone or baking sheet
Ingredients
- 2 T olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 oz. prosciutto, chopped
- 1 T fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1/2 C fig preserves
- 3/4 C crumbled feta or blue cheese
- 1/2 t freshly ground black pepper
- 1 11 oz. can, refrigerated thin pizza crust pizza crust of your choice
- Garnishes, if desired- fresh fig
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Combine oil and garlic in microwave safe bowl and microwave for 20 seconds.
- You may cook prosciutto in a skillet or oven until crisp and drain and then crumble for pizza OR you can chop prosciutto and add to pizza without cooking. Your preference!
- Unroll pizza dough and place on cast iron pizza pan or lightly greased baking sheet or stone.
- Brush dough with garlic infused oil and spread with fig preserves.
- Sprinkle evenly with prosciutto, cheese, rosemary and pepper.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until crust is browned and crisp. Let stand 5 minutes before cutting. You may garnish with more rosemary or figs.
Notes
And if your feet might be found under a picnic table near a fire pit where cooler nights might call for s’mores…I’d say that would be the highlight to begin the fall season for sure.
Soft cozy blankets and bonfires are a perfect outdoor place for conversation and gathering.
I hope that I have helped you find ways to help get you ready for fall, friends.
