How to Make a Great Family Movie Night
Any time is the perfect time for a fabulous family movie night. How to make this a GREAT family movie night is what’s on the agenda today.
With spring break on the calendar this week, what a fun addition for family time.
At times, movies and discussion about them, can provide conversation that helps teach values and expose kids to movies that they wouldn’t ordinarily select.
For me, previewing all movies BEFORE showing them to kids is a priority. It helps navigate issues, prevent exposure to undesirables, and provide time to prepare before choices are made with them.
Ages of your family members will determine attention span and interests, so keep that in mind when looking over my list of family movie suggestions!
10 Ways to Create a Great Family Movie Night:
- Have a theme night, such as a “Disney Movie Marathon” or a “Superhero Movie Night.”
- Have a “Build Your Own Pizza” night and make homemade pizzas ready to enjoy while you watch a movie.
- Make homemade popcorn and other movie theater snacks like nachos or candy.
- Have a “Choose Your Own Adventure” movie night and let each family member pick a movie.
- Have a “Musical Movie Night” and watch musicals like “The Sound of Music,” “Annie,” or “The Greatest Showman.”
- Have a “Classics Movie Night” and watch classic films like “The Wizard of Oz” or “Little Women.”
- Have a “Sci-Fi Movie Night” and watch movies like “E.T.” or “Star Wars.”
- Set up a cozy indoor fort and watch a movie inside it. Beach tents are great for this!
- Have a movie “shorts” night where several can be watched.
- Watch a movie “series” so that everyone can’t wait for the next one.
Here are some great recipes to have for those movie nights:
Sweet offerings…
- Disney inspired cupcakes.
Aren’t these the cutest Minnie cupcakes that would be great for a Disney themed movie night? My niece’s creation. So adorable!
Popcorn Favorites…
- G’s Fabulous Movie Popcorn.

Notes
And if a larger group are attending, we have one of these popcorn machines that comes out. Same great ingredients used in the G’s popcorn version makes the popcorn that tastes like true movie theater (or Noble Park Funland) popcorn!
Pizza Night…
Or add your own toppings to pizza crust so that everyone creates their own.
Create a special “setting” for your movie night.
Add a bit of cozy and special to the room.
- Soft blankets.
- Lots of pillows.
- Tents.
- Fairy lights.
- Sleeping bags.
Remember to keep movie night fun.
Perhaps by setting a scheduled time, it allows everyone to look forward to time together.
Keep ages of your children in mind when making movie selections and have a rule that everyone’s opinion matters to avoid arguments over choice.
