Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cream the butter, sugar and vegetable shortening together until fluffy.
Add in the molasses and egg and mix well.
Add the flour and spices together until well combined and add to wet ingredients.
Roll the dough into 1" balls and then roll them in sugar. I use a 1" scoop to make the balls equal sizes that bake evenly.
Place 2" apart on a cookie sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes until they just start to crackle on the top--that way they will be soft.
Cool on the cookie sheet for a minute and then move onto a cooling rack to cool completely before storing in a tin.
Notes
Watch carefully to make sure that you remove when they just begin to crack! That way they remain soft.
