Saturday Sideline-Joy in the Garden
This week has been full of more joy in the garden. Remember when I shared with you that my husband had helped clear and gift plants from a local greenhouse to area nursing homes and nonprofits?? Well, there ended up more unwanted plants than ever before. Deliveries continued to new locations and neighbors, family and friends looked among the leftovers and took tomatoes, peppers, petunias, and random pots of unknown plants to add to their gardens or take to others in need.
It always warms my heart to see my husband and his friends take on this challenge and bless the community. Heart warming.
Meanwhile…the leftovers in that trailer continued to need watering and research to find out what they were and need.
Now in my years of teaching I had recognized the antics of high schoolers…many of those tags had those kids’ signatures of switching to wrong pots…and it was obvious that the pepper plants were not tomato plants, etc. Hence…research!
Plant app needed!
There are many plant apps out there to identify plants and I finally resolved to that to ensure that I planted those annuals with the right location and amount of sun and watering.
Many were familiar to me…others just needed more help in the care direction.
Proven Winners superbena whiteout verbena filled some of my concrete pots. This bunny has been with me for years and he always brightens my day.
Veggies needed large pots
Large concrete pots were the answer to the flats of jalapeno peppers and flats of another type of green pepper.
More perennials and annuals found their way to the landscape. The addition of salvia, sweet william, dusty miller, petunias, impatiens, and more gave beauty to some containers and small areas in the garden.
Deck Update
Yesterday, I shared with you the process of restoration for the deck following the fire. There is no “after” photo yet– but great headway has been made this week. Between the showers, my husband finally managed to get a first coat of charcoal paint on the deck. In the process he found two more boards to replace. Tomorrow that will happen.
I am in love with the new color. Fingers crossed it will last a few years until it needs to be painted again.
Raised Bed Gardens arrive tomorrow!
Can’t wait to get the tomatoes…millions of them we inherited…added to those new raised beds tomorrow. We have no clue what type or kind; but, the surprise will still be welcome.
This week will be more finishing to the landscape with new compost and plantings.

Remember your loved ones, friends…
As this weekend is for remembering those who have fallen for our country, I am reflecting on loved ones still with us. A difficult weekend here for those who have experienced loss from two previous school shootings spanning over 20 years in our own community. My heart hurts and I’m praying for all affected by this one in Texas.
Thankful that I got to hug and spend time with my sister this week. My siblings are in Alaska, Florida, Virginia and my hometown. It’s always treasured to spend time with them. Hug loved ones a little tighter, friends.
May your gatherings be sweet!
Love to you all on this Saturday.

I would give you a hug if close by. That shooting has all of us mourning for the families that have lost these sweet little children and teachers that loss their lives. We mourn for our country and the violence that continues to impact our communities. We go on with life but in the back of our minds, “is any place safe these days when you cannot send your babies to school, worship in church or even shop at a local grocery store”. We pray that the evil stops and soon.
In brighter news, your deck is looking good. Such a nice photo of Gary. I am so glad the two of you are feeling much better. I love that frog concrete planter. It is adorable!

The two school shootings close by us had both family and friends involved. Life will never be the same for us in this area and the road is a long and difficult one for those they left behind and those who live in that community. Praying for our entire country this weekend…and thank you for loving that bunny planter…he’s been with me many years and he never disappoints. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend with guests in. Focusing on loved ones is so very important.

Soooo much more to plant. Raised bed frames were put together yesterday and planting all of those tomatoes happens today…along with the last of the peppers. Whew! Let’s hope those all those veggies are worth it!
