Olive Cream Cheese Spread

Often the most memorable recipes come from least expected moments. That’s true with this recipe. You see, my mother in law always bought small jars of cheese spreads that she would have set out for lunch or an appetizer before dinner. Some were olive pimento cream cheese spread and others had pineapple. They were packaged in those sweet little glass jars that everyone saved for serving fruit juices or parfaits later.

I have no clue how many decades it’s been since I sat at that table with her to indulge in a cracker or two ore even a celery stick with that olive cream cheese spread.

Who knows what happened to those collected jars after it was emptied…

Have you ever enjoyed olive cream cheese spread?

If you love olives, this one fits the bill.

Although Kroger said they stocked it only for the holidays…we couldn’t find the olive pimento cheese spread version online. All said they were out of stock.

Southern Living jogged my memory of this spread in photos where they had added it to finger sandwiches. Cut into triangles with crusts off, how perfect an afternoon snack, tea, or even a lunch option.

Pimento stuffed green olives have been a favorite all my life. My mother always had them in the center of a deviled egg tray or added to a pickle relish tray with summer fare.

A simple and easy recipe this one…

Add roughly chopped olives to a bit of softened cream cheese and you have a party ready to happen.

If you want it a bit fancier? Add a shake of Worcestershire sauce and a dash of garlic salt to give it even more flavor.

For me? I think I am a fan of just the green olives and cream cheese.

Ready in 5 minutes.

Just add crackers or make those tea sandwiches for lunch. Add a bit of fresh pineapple or strawberries on the side.

Stuffed into celery or with carrot sticks is delectable. What would you pair with it?

Here’s that quick and easy recipe.

You’re welcome….

As I sit and enjoy this sweet reminder of afternoons past, I’ll cherish the conversations with “Annie Mae” saying to me things like, “You are an answer to my prayer for my son”. I might wipe a few tears among the moments…and enjoy that cheese spread while I reminisce.

And during the holidays? I’ll be checking to look for those tiny jars to make sure my version is close to the original.

Thanks for joining me down memory lane for a few moments. Hope you enjoy this one.
