Do You Love Christmas Sugar Cookies?
I have had sugar cookie cutters for years. Fall cookie cutters. Snowflake cookie cutters. Christmas cookie cutters. Some for every occasion. So many choices for sugar cookies. Christmas sugar cookies of all kinds. Tucked away in bins. Some for every season. I always have great intentions for using them more.
For holidays.
All holidays.
Fall.
Christmas.
Valentine’s Day.
Easter.
Do you have the same issue?
Today, I pulled them out. For Christmas sugar cookies. And the snowflakes spoke my name. I love snow. Snow days. Deep snow. Snowflakes falling. Anyone else with me?
I know there are those who are not a fan. Of the snow. Or the roads. Not the cleanup. Nor the driving.
But me. My hand’s raised for snow. This Kentucky girl has always loved the “snow day” school closing announcements. Sitting by the fireplace watching snow falling. Singing…”I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”…You get my drift. Pun intended.
So, making snowflake cookie cutter cookies today was a no brainer.
I gathered ingredients. Made dough. Chilled dough. Rolled dough. Cut the dough and then baked it on my favorite cookie sheets.
Cookies were cooled and decorated. With edible glitter and decorations.
Snowflake style.
All unique. All different. Each with their own design. Like all of us.
But that’s when it hit me.
I’m a gift person. And these snowflakes spoke “gifts” to me.
So, out came the clear bags and the ribbon and the tiny ornaments and my heart was happy. You have seen these bags before if you have followed my blog for long… for herbs…for ornaments...for my recipe collection…and now the cookies…sooooo many uses for them! I purchase the pleated cellophane party bags, ribbon and ornaments from Hobby Lobby; but, they can be found at most craft stores.
Gifts of snowflake cookies. Wrapped. Festive and happy.
Truly. Isn’t that what the holidays are about? Giving?
…Meanwhile…my husband is singing in the background…”Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the cookies are so delightful!” He’s truly a fan of these cookies.
Perhaps your feet may not be able to be under my table. But, gifting these, may be the perfect fix for that.
This may be the year of cookie and gift delivery…snowflake Christmas sugar cookies…maybe you could participate in a gift delivery? Make the world brighter. Make the world sweeter.
We could all use that gift right now.
Snowflake Sugar Cookies
Equipment
- mixer
- cookie sheet
- microwave
- oven
Ingredients
- 3/4 C butter softened
- 3/4 C sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 t vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 C all purpose flour
- 1 pkg white almond bark
- Edible glitter, decorations
Instructions
- Beat softened butter with mixer until creamy.
- Gradually add in sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
- Add egg and vanilla and mix well.
- Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl and gradually add to butter mixture, beating until smooth.
- Shape dough into two discs. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least an hour.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Roll each disc into 1/4" thickness on floured surface. TIP: A rolling pin with the 1/4" bands is wonderful to roll this dough perfectly.
- Use cookie cutter to cut shapes and place on a greased cookie sheet 1" apart. TIP: I love the doughmaker cookie sheets and these work beautifully without greasing!
- Poke holes in cutouts using the flat end of a skewer. or straw.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until slightly browned.
- Cool for one minute on the baking sheet and remove to a cooling rack to cool completely.
- In a ziplock bag, melt squares of white chocolate almond bark in the microwave until just melted. Cut a hole in one corner and ice the cookies in whatever design you like. If you want to pipe, attach a tip and coupler and outline or make designs. Sprinkle or decorate with sprinkles or edible glitter.
- If you are gifting these, when cookies are cooled and set completely, slide into bag and add ribbon and decorations to close the bag. Have fun with your creativity!!

I don’t know how your writing can bring tears from a cookie recipe, but you’ve done it again. Love you so much, sweet sister!

These are truly lovely! I never would’ve thought to use almond bark for frosting. The ribbon and little ornaments really make these special. ❤️

I know, right? The original recipe called for crisco and white chocolate chips…and almond bark is a great substitution for that. I am all about making them pretty! Glad you liked them!

We love sugar cookies! My husband would be singing the same song if I made these. My grandmother taught me to use powdered sugar instead of flour when rolling out sugar cookies. I always make her sugar cookie recipe and it is a sticky dough. I love how you packaged these and who wouldn’t want to receive a cookie as a gift??

I love the idea of powdered sugar! You are my new best friend! Trying that next. Thanks so much, friend!
