An Easy Crockpot Apple Recipe
It’s fall! What could be easier than making crockpot apple recipes? Here’s an easy crockpot recipe that combines apples, cinnamon and brown sugar to make the most delicious apples for so many uses.
This one is so easy that you can make it your own by stopping the cooking in the crockpot at any variation you like the apples.
If you want cooked apples…cook to your desired consistency.
Apple jam? Cook a little longer and then leave the lid off at the end to remove extra liquid.
We had great nieces and nephews with us last week. My husband pulled out the apple/peeler/corer/slicer that we have in the pantry to let them peel apples to eat.
You see, that gizmo is always used when making an apple crisp.
Why I hadn’t pulled it out to make the fried apples or the applesauce is beyond me.
That’s when it hit me. There are great recipes out there for apple butter using a crockpot to cook them. But…we aren’t true apple butter lovers.
What if I just COOKED apples in the crockpot?
Perhaps for making apple pie filling? or maybe turnovers? or if I cooked them longer, why not create an apple jam?
Do you have a crockpot apple recipe?
If so…how do you use the apples?
So, off to use the apple/peeler/corer/slicer to remove cores, peeling and thinly slice the apples. If you love to cook apples, one of these is such a huge timesaver.
Into the crockpot, turned on high, they go.
A mixture of apples gives a great flavor, but feel free to choose your favorites. Your apples will determine how much sugar you want to add and how long it will take to reduce the juice as it cooks for the consistency you desire.
Stir in brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, a dash of salt and cook on high for 4-5 hours and then turn to low, stirring once an hour, checking to get to the consistency you desire.
When apples are cooked to your desired consistency, add to freezer containers to the freezer OR canning jars to water bath can for 15 minutes.
Cooked apples after three hours look something like this..
I removed some for a side to serve for those who had feet under my table.
To make the jam, I simply turn the crockpot to low for another 4 hours and then if there’s still a lot of juice, I remove the lid and turn to high for another or so until it’s a great jam consistency.
How much easier could it get?
