Mother’s Day ended with a heavenly Martha’s Vineyard Asian Soba Salad at Black Dog Tavern. If you are ever at Martha’s Vineyard…the Black Dog Tavern at Vineyard Haven is a favorite spot. Martha’s Vineyard inspired salad did not disappoint. Heavenly. The perfect ending to a great Mother’s Day celebration. You see. My brother gifted us a trip to the Vineyard that they couldn’t take. What a win, right? I had hosted him, my sister-in-law and 6 others from Japan the week before and he knew their visit had left my heart full but my tank a bit empty. Rejuvenation prescription accepted. You see…I’m not really a touristy girl. I love to blend in with locals, feel like I am not the “tourist”, and get a true feel of a place as we visit. The atmosphere, beauty, and climate unspoiled by the busyness of tourist season. Now, let me tell you there are amazing reasons to visit Martha’s Vineyard on the off season. On the other hand, there are other drawbacks to not visiting from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We met many people coming to “open” homes for the season. Turning water back on; utilities back in place; planting of flowers; and traveling to and from on the ferry. But, limitations meant car rental and trying to navigate places to eat that were open. Our research and recommendations were not truly possible with that in mind. I’ll save those tips for another share… But, for now? The remake of that glorious Asian soba salad in case you are like me and won’t be traveling back to Martha’s Vineyard anytime soon. Feel free to use black sesame seeds and toasted sesame seeds to recreate this favorite Martha’s Vineyard inspired Asian salad. Goodness! Black Dog Bakery Cafe even took me to another level with another salad. I’ll share that one as soon as I can recreate it. And by the way…Black Dog Tavern AND Black Dog Bakery Cafe were by far our favorite restaurants on Martha’s Vineyard. The others open while we were there were no comparison. With all the fresh veggies beginning to come in, add this salad to your menu. I promise, it won’t disappoint!
