How to Create a Fun DIY Valentine’s Day Tree
You know when you begin taking down all of your Christmas trees and decorations and really don’t want your home to be empty? My granddaughter and I came up with the perfect solution! The most fun DIY Valentine’s Day tree was the perfect transition from Christmas to Valentine’s Day and keep home festive!
The cutest skinny tree in their home already was set and ready to be converted to Valentine’s Day. It was wrapped in the perfect white ball ornament garland and lots of red and white gnomes that needed to be included in the Valentine’s Day celebration. White lights were already in place for a new white, pink and red color scheme. Red and white berries from Christmas would be added, too, for depth and to make it full and fun.
We may both have squealed about creating a Valentine’s Day Tree!
Off we went to the Dollar Tree with our list included. On the list were:
- Valentine hearts, signs, garlands and decorations that could be added to the tree.
- red and white pipe cleaners for swirls.
- Valentine LED lights.
Here’s the stash we found!
- Valentine themed gnomes to mix with the other gnomes on the tree.
- Red LED heart battery operated lights.
- Red and pink glittery tinsel heart ornaments.
- Larger strings of 3 hearts.
- Valentine fuchsia and red heart garland.
- heart sprays for the tree topper.
- felt cupcakes and hearts to be glued together and tuck into the tree.
We looked for Valentines cards that could be hole punched and added with ribbon to make a garland. Since those weren’t to be found yet at the Dollar Tree, we found other items to make it feel more “Valentine’s Day” themed.
From Christmas to Valentine’s Day was the plan.
Never missing a beat from cozy and festive from one holiday to another!
After our selection, off we went to begin.
How to Transform that Christmas Tree to Valentine’s Day.
- First, add batteries to the LED heart garlands.
- Next, gather scissors, wire snips, glue and tweezers to make your creations.
Dollar Tree felt cupcakes and hearts are the most fun to make to add to the tree. Glue the googly eyes, noses and pieces together to make them your own version and make your tree unique.
Pipe Cleaner swirls.
Make pipe cleaner swirls by wrapping red and pipe cleaners or chenilles around pencils to make cute swirls to add to the tree.
Maximize your tree decorations.
- Cut apart garlands and groups of 3 hearts to give you more ornaments to add to the tree.
- Add strands of battery operated heart lights to give another glow and festive fun.
- Next, build on what you already have from Christmas that works, such as, red and white gnomes, white and red berries, white lights and white garlands.
- Separate the garlands that have the metal connectors to make them stretch farther on the tree.
- Create sections of the long heart wired garland to make it more manageable when adding in.

From Christmas Tree…
to Valentine’s Day Tree!
What a fun way to spend time with my granddaughter! She and I were both happy with the transformation created.
For under $20, we took that Christmas tree into a bit of Valentine’s Day cheer and gave a bit of coziness that removing all of the holiday decor can take away.
A win win for sure!
