Homemade Marshmallows for Gifts
I don’t know about you, but there are just some recipes that scream gifting. You know which ones they are for you, right? Homemade Marshmallows for gifts are ALWAYS requested by some of my friends.
I’ve shared how this recipe came about a while back. You can find more about that here.
But, today?
Let’s make the cutest gifts from homemade marshmallows!
If you are like me, a party needs the cutest favors, right?
I was perusing through the bottom of the pit of online shopping and found the cutest boxes that needed to be filled.
Seriously! Little white houses that reminded me of my logo…with hearts above the windows.
Oh, my goodness!
Then, I knew what needed to be tucked inside for this party.
Homemade marshmallows.
Yep. Cut to fit into these little houses. Into cellophane bags to contain them inside the houses was the plan.
Here’s what I found.
Aren’t they the cutest?
They were ordered.
Then put together.
Want an easy trick on putting these together?
It’s easier to add the bows to the top and THEN leave the bottoms open to fill.
First, I folded all of the folded pieces to loosen them to make it easier to work with the houses.
Then, I pushed out all of the windows from the inside out.
I folded the triangle sides on the top in…and then added the ribbons, tying into a bow.
If you want the tops to close tighter, you might add a bit of double sided tape between the two heart shaped holes.
Just leave the bottoms open until you are ready to fill.
Then add your contents in from the bottom.
And close the bottom folds in.
If you need a great homemade marshmallow recipe, here you go!
Homemade Marshmallows
Equipment
- saucepan
- 1 mixer with whisk attachment
- 1 candy thermometer
- 1 set measuring cups and spoons
Ingredients
- 3 pkg. unflavored gelatin
- 1 1/2 C sugar
- 1 C light corn syrup
- 1/4 t. kosher salt
- 1 T vanilla
- confectioners' sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Start by combining the 3 pkgs. of unflavored gelatin in 1/2 C. cold water in your mixer bowl with the whisk attachment. Let it sit while you make the syrup.
- Combine the sugar, corn syrup, salt and 1/2 C. water in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Raise the heat to high and cook the syrup until it reaches 240 degrees on a candy thermometer. Then remove from the heat.
- TIP:It makes it easier to handle by pouring the syrup to a container with a pouring spout, such as, a liquid glass or silicone measuring cup.
- Turn the mixer on low and slowly begin pouring the syrup into the dissolved gelatin. Then turn the mixer to high and whip until the mixture is very thick and glossy, about 15 minutes. Add the vanilla and mix in thoroughly.
- Dust a 9 x 12 nonmetal dish with confectioner's sugar.
- TIP: It's easier to line the pan with parchment paper, dust with confectioner's sugar, so that you can then lift out and then cut after they have dried.
- Using a rubber scraper, add marshmallow mixture to the dish.
- Level off the marshmallow mixture and cover with more confectioner's sugar.
- Allow to stand uncovered overnight until it dries out.
- Cut marshmallows in squares or with a cookie cutter dusted with confectioner's sugar. Then coat each side with more confectioner's sugar sealing all of the edges.
- TIP: If using a cookie cutter, cut as many as possible from the recipe. I save the extra bits to cut into small miniature marshmallow bits to add to hot cocoa or other recipes.A pizza cutter is great for cutting marshmallows into squares.
- Package in clear bags for gift giving or store in an airtight container.
Notes
Plan to make those marshmallows a day before wrapping and adding them to gift bags or boxes…
They are all ready to be given for party favors.
I am in love with these houses.
Hope you love making and gifting these, friends.
